On June 12, 2025, the City of Cagayan de Oro proudly joined the nation in commemorating the 127th Philippine Independence Day through a solemn and dignified celebration held at the Kiosko Kagawasan this city. Anchored on the national theme “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan” (Freedom, Future, History), the event served as a powerful reminder of the Filipino people’s enduring struggle for liberty, the collective hope for a brighter tomorrow, and the vital importance of preserving the nation’s rich historical legacy.
The ceremony was graced by the distinguished presence of Most Worshipful Peter Lim Lo Suy, Past Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines (2009), and Most Worshipful Agapito Suan, Jr., Past Grand Master (2019). Their esteemed attendance bestowed honor, prestige, and a profound sense of gravitas upon the occasion.
Also in full participation were the officers and members of Makahambus Lodge No. 315, Free and Accepted Masons (F&AM), led by Worshipful Master Aldrich M. Uayan. Their presence underscored the enduring Masonic values of patriotism, civic responsibility, and community engagement. Named in remembrance of the historic Battle of Makahambus Hill, the lodge continues to embody the same spirit of heroism and love of country as exemplified by the nation's revolutionary heroes.
The commemoration featured a ceremonial flag raising, a wreath-laying tribute to the country’s fallen heroes, and vibrant cultural performances that showcased the richness of Filipino heritage. Representatives from various sectors—including local government units, civic groups, and educational institutions—gathered in solidarity to mark this significant national milestone.
More than a tribute to the past, the event stood as a resounding call for unity and active citizenship. It urged every Filipino to uphold the ideals of freedom, strive for national progress, and remain steadfast in nurturing the legacy of those who fought for the country’s independence.
